College going Culture

Schoolwide College Going Culture

Schools with a college going culture create environments, where the adult attitudes and school practices encourage students and their families to get the information and tools necessary to foster access and success in postsecondary education.

Indicators of college going culture include:

  • Early elementary students who begin learning about their future options and the education necessary to achieve different careers
  • Middle schools that have an explicit focus on setting career goals and planning for the steps required to achieve their goals
  • Schools that convey the message that all students can plan for, attend, and be successful in college
  • Schools that reinforce the same high expectations for all students
